Perfume Discovery — United Kingdom
Rare ingredients, sourced without compromise. Fragrances built to last on the skin and in the memory — created for those who understand that a bottle of perfume is not a product, but a point of view.
Est. United Kingdom, 2024
The Maison
Perfume Discovery was founded in the United Kingdom with a singular intention: to bring genuinely rare fragrances to people who have grown tired of the mainstream. We are not interested in mass appeal. We are interested in making something true — compositions that feel as though they could not have been made by anyone else, in any other moment.
Our maison draws from centuries of European perfumery tradition — from the lavender fields of Provence to the rose estates of Bulgaria, from the oud forests of Southeast Asia to the frankincense groves of Oman — whilst remaining entirely contemporary in its sensibility. We do not romanticise the past. We borrow from it selectively, in service of the present.
Every formula begins as an image: a memory, a place, a quality of light at a particular time of year. Our perfumers work backwards from that sensation, finding the ingredients that can evoke it without illustrating it. The result is never literal. It is never a list of what you smell. It is the thing itself, in a form that lives on the skin.
Provenance
We source directly from growers, distillers, and specialist suppliers in over a dozen countries. No intermediaries. No compromises.
Craft
Small batches. Long macerations. Each fragrance given the time it needs to become itself before we release it.
Honesty
We tell you exactly what is in our bottles and where it comes from. Nothing hidden. Nothing padded. Just fragrance.
Six compositions. Each one the result of months of development, thousands of trial blends, and one uncompromising question: does this earn its place in the world?
An intoxicating ode to the Damascene rose. It opens with Bulgarian rose absolute at its most candid — dewy, honeyed, with a faint green undertone that smells of the petal rather than the perfume. The heart settles into orris butter and jasmine grandiflorum: a bed of powder and warmth that carries the rose forward rather than replacing it. The base is benzoin, aged sandalwood, and a white musk of almost tactile softness. Rosa Mystica does not fade; it shifts registers. On warm skin, it will last the better part of two days.
Olfactory notes
From £195
A nocturne in wood and shadow. Bergamot and juniper open the composition with the kind of bracing sharpness that belongs to November evenings — cold air, damp stone, a city at rest. Cedar arrives as the dominant note: dry, pencil-clean, almost architectural. Beneath it, Assam oud lends its characteristic sweetness and depth — resinous, incense-like, distinctly wild. The base is vetiver and a whisper of tobacco absolute that burns very slowly, leaving a trail that others will notice long after you have left the room.
Olfactory notes
From £210
The coastline of Normandy in early March, before the season arrives. Marine minerals and ozone give the opening a bracing clarity — there is cold air here, and distance. Violet leaf adds a crushed-green note that feels alive, almost edible. The heart is seaweed absolute and ambrette seed: unusual, slightly animalic, oceanic in a way that feels real rather than cosmetic. The base anchors everything in oakmoss, driftwood, and a veil of genuine ambergris — that most ancient and mysterious of perfumery's fixatives — which extends the trail to an extraordinary degree.

From £185
Ambre Noir is unapologetically opulent. It opens with Iranian saffron — true Khorasan saffron, metallic and honeyed simultaneously, a material so potent that a single milligram can transform a formula. The heart is labdanum, myrrh, and pure vanilla absolute: warm, resinous, almost edible. The base deploys Laotian oud in conversation with styrax and a suite of animalic musks. Rich, dark, and deliberately excessive, Ambre Noir is the kind of fragrance that demands a considered decision before you apply it — and rewards that decision handsomely.

The forest in the hour after rain. Calabrian bergamot and wild galbanum open the composition with the almost aggressive freshness of crushed green things — there is no softness here at first, only clarity and cold. Geranium and clary sage form the heart: aromatic, slightly medicinal in the way that all great fougères are, with an undertow of lavender from the Provençal highlands. The base is Haitian vetiver, oakmoss, and a dry cedar that smells of pencils and old books. Forêt Verte is the most composed of our fragrances. It is also the most immediately wearable.

Blanc Absolu is the architecture of absence — a study in white. Its opening is aldehydic and ethereal: lily of the valley, linden blossom, and a transparency that feels almost paradoxically present. The heart introduces Grasse jasmine absolute and Tahitian gardenia — plush, animalic, slightly honeyed beneath the white surface. The base is a layered accord of clean musks — evernyl, hedione, ambrette — that extends the fragrance into an almost imperceptible trail. Wear it when you want people to wonder what that was, long after you have passed.

The Art of Fragrance
Top notes — 0 to 30 minutes
Top notes are the most volatile molecules in a composition — the ones you smell immediately after application. Citrus, aldehydes, fresh herbs, light florals. They are vivid and engaging, but by design they do not last. Their job is to make you want to stay long enough for the fragrance to reveal itself. A perfumer who makes the top notes too pleasant is hiding an inferior heart. The best top notes feel simultaneously complete and like a promise of something more.
Heart notes — 30 minutes to 4 hours
The heart is where the perfumer's real intention lives. Rose, jasmine, iris, geranium, spices, woods — these are the materials that define what a fragrance actually is. A composition's heart must hold together without the scaffolding of the top notes, and must lay the groundwork for the base that will follow. This is the most technically demanding layer to construct, and the one most likely to distinguish a great fragrance from a merely good one.
Base notes — 4 hours to 48 hours
Base notes are the reason a fragrance lingers on your skin long after you have noticed it. Oud, vetiver, amber, musks, resins — these are molecules of extraordinary tenacity, whose slow release over hours and sometimes days forms the final impression of a composition. The base is what remains on your scarf the next morning. It is the thing that other people associate with you. We invest disproportionately in our bases, using materials of a quality that most mainstream perfumers consider impractical.
Five distinct worlds, each built around a unifying material, mood, or moment in time. Explore by instinct.
We travel the world to find ingredients of a quality unavailable through conventional channels — working with small-scale growers, traditional distillers, and specialist houses who share our commitment to excellence. Nothing synthetic where nature does it better. Nothing cheap where quality is possible.
Harvested by hand at dawn during a two-week window each spring. Over five tonnes of fresh petals to produce a single kilogram of absolute. The world's most prized floral ingredient.
Resinous heartwood of Aquilaria trees infected by a specific mould. Among the most costly naturals in existence. Simultaneously sweet, woody, animalic, incense-like.
Roots steam-distilled in the traditional Haitian manner. Earthy, smoky, slightly leathery, with a sweetness that deepens over decades. Among the finest fixatives in perfumery.
Picked exclusively at night, when the flowers are most fragrant. Processed within hours. Grasse jasmine has an indolic depth that no synthetic can approximate.
Creamy, milky, possessed of a soft warmth that blends seamlessly with almost every other material. We source only sustainably certified Mysore sandalwood from licensed suppliers.
From the Iris pallida rhizome. Dried for a minimum of three years before extraction. Powder-soft, violet-like, chalky. One of the most expensive natural ingredients in the world.
Hand-harvested at dawn in autumn. In fragrance: metallic, honeyed, spicy, and leathery simultaneously. A single milligram can transform an entire formula. We use it generously.
Found floating in tropical seas after decades of transformation by sun and salt water. The finest fixative known to perfumery. Adds a marine sweetness and extraordinary tenacity to every composition it touches.
Our Commitment
At Perfume Discovery, luxury is not a price point — it is a practice. It means sourcing materials we can name and trace. It means taking the time to develop compositions that reward the people who wear them over months and years, not just in the first few minutes after application. It means being honest about what is in our bottles and how they were made.
We do not make crowd-pleasers. We make companion fragrances — the kind you find yourself reaching for again and again across the seasons of a life, long after you have forgotten why you first chose them.
Request a Discovery SetSustainably sourced — we work directly with growers and distillers, maintaining relationships built on fair terms and shared values.
Dermatologically tested — all formulas comply with IFRA guidelines and have been independently assessed for skin safety.
Cruelty-free — no animal testing, at any stage. We do not use any materials tested on animals.
Fully transparent — every ingredient is disclosed. No proprietary blends used to hide cheap materials.
